Juvenile Hallux Varus

Juvenile hallux varus is a fairly rare condition. More often hallux varus is a left-over by product of metadductus. Majority of these deformities will become symptomatic simply due to shoe irritation.

Surgical treatment principles are the same for the adult, reverse the process. Younger children will require abductor releases and possibly tarsometatarsal releases to address any residual metadductus. Teenagers will will involve a reverse reverdin head osteotomy and/or reverse akin osteotomy. Rarely will we need to perform metatarsal base osteotomies.
