Idiopathic hallux varus is reportedly an uncommon
deformity. Having seen over a hundred cases, believe it is far more common then reported.
Many of these adult cases
had either metadductus as a child. Isolated hallux varus with a normal foot is far less common.

In this case the deformity lies at the 1st MPJ
|

Often these cases will develop a compensatory deformity at the proximal phalanx
|

Despite the literature, majority of the cases are bilateral
|
Like hallux valgus, hallux varus can become symptomatic.
Surgical correction is simply to reverse the deformity.
