Hallux Varus

Idiopathic hallux varus is reportedly an uncommon deformity. Having seen over a hundred cases, believe it is far more common then reported.

Many of these adult cases had either metadductus as a child. Isolated hallux varus with a normal foot is far less common.

Often these cases will develop a compensatory deformity at the proximal phalanx

Despite the literature, majority of the cases are bilateral

Like hallux valgus, hallux varus can become symptomatic. Surgical correction is simply to reverse the deformity.
