Ankle and Foot Conditions

Charcot arthropathy

Charcot arthropathy is dreadful condition which can destroy a foot and/or ankle.  Charcot joints can occur in not just diabetics.  The combination of neuropathy in lieu of even the slightest of injury, the foot can and will disintegrate.

Early diagnosis is the key.  Catch the charcot changes early prior to dislocation, and the process can be controlled.  Catch the foot after dislocation, and it is very hard to reduce and stabilize.  We try and we fail more times then not.  Amputation is the end-stage result.

Note the calcaneus being pulled off the ground as a result of the severe equinus which always needs to be addressed
